Annual Storytelling Class
3 Saturdays in August: August 3, 10 and 24 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
(Can’t attend all 3? A make-up class can be provided.)
Human beings are hardwired to want to tell stories. We tell our loved ones, friends, work mates, etc. about: our triumphs, tribulations and the weird thing that happened the other day; but these are casual, spur of the moment stories. Have you ever wanted to either learn how to tell a more polished story or how to improve what storytelling abilities you already have?
The Storytelling class will cover how to tell a variety of story types: Traditional folk tales; Literary tales; Personal stories; and Urban Legends. We will put the primary focus on “spooky stories,” because after the class sessions, we will transition into rehearsals that will become the performance of Spooky Stories and Songs of the Season.
NOTE: Most rehearsals are individual, so rehearsal times are flexible. Rehearsals can take place in person or on Zoom. Our three classes and our two dress rehearsals will take place in person at GreenMan Theatre, 232 S. York St., Elmhurst.
Students do not have to perform in the show to attend the class, nor do students who wish to perform have to tell their stories in all of the scheduled performances.
The Director reserves the right to decide if each student is ready to perform.
Performances of Spooky Stories and Songs of the Season will be Tuesday, October 15th at the Elmhurst Public Library at 7:00 p.m. and Friday and Saturday October 18 and 19 at 7:30 p.m.
The Tuesday, October 15th 7:00 p.m. performance at the Elmhurst Public Library will be both live and online (by registration) through the public library.
Class Location: First United Methodist Church, Elmhurst, 232 S. York St.
Fee: $25/Members, $30/Non-Members
For additional information about current and future offerings and sign-up details, please contact Carolyn Thomas-Davidoff, GreenMan Theatre’s Education Chair, at [email protected], call GreenMan Theatre at 630-464-2646, or visit www.greenmantheatre .
