8 to the Bar 2026 Auditions -
Lights! Camera! Action!

Sunday, May 31st, 7p.m.; Monday, June 1st, 7p.m.

GreenMan Theatre Troupe will hold auditions for the 2026 edition of “8 to the Bar,” their sixth-annual production of eight 10-minute plays..

Auditions will be held on Sunday, May 31, at 7p.m. and Monday, June 1, at 7 p.m. at St. Peter's UCC, 125 W Church St., Elmhurst.

“Lights! Camera! ACTION!” is the prompt for each of the selected plays. Becca Easley is serving as Producer.

Go to rebrand.ly/8ToTheBarAuditions for audition appointments. Auditioners may also audition without an appointment – but should arrive no later than 8p.m. on either day.
 
Auditions will be cold readings of scenes both generic and specific to this year’s eight “8 to the Bar” play selections. Auditioners do not need to prepare material for the audition. No headshots/resumes are required; however, those auditioning will be asked to fill out an audition form listing any acting experience. In addition, auditioners should bring information about scheduling conflicts between the audition dates and July 19, 2026.

Plays, writers and directors for “8 to the Bar 2026” are:

“Back to One” by Keith Whalen of Peekskill, New York, directed by Anthony Augustine.
Cast: one woman, one man, one man-or-woman. A woman finds herself being directed in scenes from her life – which goes very quickly.

“Death Never Tasted So Sweet” by Brad White of Louisville, Kentucky, directed by Jacob Borre.
Cast: 1 man, 70ish, bombastic, Shakespearean. One man, late 30s-40s. one man-or-woman – mid 30s-50s. One man-or-woman – 40s-60s. When a once great Shakespearean actor takes a snack-cake commercial to pay the bills, things don’t quite go as planned.

“The Girl with the Box” by Mike Brannon of Greensboro, North Carolina, directed by Karyn Ustas.
Cast: one woman, somewhat nondescript, one older woman, one mysterious man, one harried-looking man-or-woman standing behind an airport gate counter. A woman walks into an airport terminal, holding a medium-sized box. She has a nerve-wracking connection to whatever’s in the box and knows it’ll be better off in someone else’s hands.

“Just Like in the Movies!” by Louis Feinberg of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, directed by Raegan Kotz.
Cast: one man, mid 20s, looks harmless; and is, actually. One man, 40s-50s, tough trenchcoat-and-fedora clad private eye. One woman, 20s-30s, gorgeous/dangerous film noir femme fatale. One man – 20s-50s, plays three roles, a private eye wanna be, a weaselly villain with a foreign accent, and an Irish cop. Can a gentle, feckless used bookstore manager live up to the expectations of his tough private-eye father? NOTE: Until production week, most rehearsals will most likely be held in Bolingbrook.

“Living Doll” by David Golden of Seattle, Washington, directed by Morgan LeResche.
Cast: one man, late 30s – a film producer, one woman, late 20s – a film executive. And one more cast member: Cookie, the doll/star of the producer’s horror film series. She’s not really alive. Probably.

“Surprise” by Mark Harvey Levine of Indianapolis, Indiana, directed by Kimberly Brumirski.
Cast: two women, 20s-30s, one man, 20s-30s. In a cheap, all-night diner, Peter, a mediocre psychic, is about to have his heart broken yet again. Or will he?

“Tiger, Tiger” by Rand Higbee of Yachats, Oregon, directed by Daina Giesler.
Cast: one cavewoman, 23 years old, the daughter. One caveman, 45 years old, the father. One woman, 45 years old, the mother. It is 80,000 years or so, give or take. Kala, a cavewoman of talent, has drawn a frighteningly realistic-looking tiger. Can it be killed? Or has Art been born?

​“Tiny Man on Ferry” by Samara Siskind of South Florida, directed by Ryan Flynn.
​Cast: one woman, 20s-30s, hoping to live the perfect moment. One man, 20s-30s, hoping to capture the perfect moment. A New York photographer meets an enthusiastic tourist on the Staten Island Ferry, complete with ocean waves, the Statue of Liberty, and a pigeon with deadly aim.

“8 to the Bar” will be performed July 17, 18, and 19, 2026, at Mystic Vines, 219 W. St. Charles Rd., Villa Park. Tickets are $20 and are being sold in advance, with limited walk-up tickets available on performance dates.
