The Power of Children
At The Elmhurst History Museum
GreenMan Theatre is excited to announce the performance of short monologues in conjunction with the Elmhurst History Museum’s exhibition of The Power of Children. Three children from history that have had particularly strong influences on our world will be featured in the exhibition: Anne Frank, Ruby Bridges, and Ryan White.
The characters from these three children’s lives who will be represented in monologues will be: Anne Frank, Otto Frank (her father), Miep Gies (who helped to hide the Franks), Robert Smith, a Federal Marshal and Mrs. Newkirk (both from the life of Ruby Bridges), and Ryan White and his best friend Heather, from the life of Ryan White.
Characters to perform in September are: Anne Frank, age 15, Heather, age 16
(from Ryan White’s story, Miep (from Anne Frank’s life), and Robert Smith, a Marshal (from Ruby Bridge’s story).
September Sunday performances will be at 2:00 p.m:
Sunday, Sept. 8—Anne Frank, played by Emma Boghossian
Sunday, Sept. 15—Robert Smith, Federal Marshal, played by Peter Piane
Sunday, Sept. 22—Heather, played by Ryan Fleming
Sunday, Sept. 29—Miep Gies, played by Elizabeth Thompson
These Sunday performances will run a half hour, so the actors will also answer questions from the audience.
(If you are a member of the EHM, Anne Frank’s character will also perform at the opening of the exhibit, which will be Sept. 5th.)
The largest performance will be Sun. Oct. 6th at 2:00 p.m., and it will take place at the Education building next door to the EHM. Tickets are $5.00 for adults, free for up to age 18, (registration required) and are available on the EHM website, elmhursthistory.org (in the Family Programs section.)
The performers for Oct. 6 will be:
Otto Frank—played by Joe Schram
Mrs. Newkirk—played by Debbie Proska
Ryan White—played by Robert McDonough
Anne Frank—played by Emma Boghossian
After the Oct. 6th performance, we’ll bring all four performers back on stage, and the actors will answer questions from the audience.
The EHM is located at 120 E. Park Ave, Elmhurst, IL. Admission is free.
The POC exhibit runs Sept. 6-Oct. 13, 2019.
