It was a dark and stormy night, and I felt a bit…unsettled, as I approached the McAddams Family mansion. While the thunder crashed, the wind howled, and the lightning flickered on the dilapidated old house, I was forcibly reminded of every horror movie I had ever seen! I kept reminding myself that an Engagement Party is meant to be a joyful occasion, but I approached the front door, which was hanging on its hinges, with trepidation.
The door creaked open, and a sepulchral voice said, “Come in. Welcome to the McAddams Family Home.” It was a dark and stormy night, and I felt nervous, as I hesitantly approached the McAddams Family mansion. Around me, thunder crashed, wind howled, and lightning flickered, illuminating the dilapidated old house in brief flashes. This was the stuff of every horror movie I had ever seen! What was I, a Texas girl, doing on this forsaken Yankee plot of land—complete with graveyard?? I kept reminding myself that an Engagement Party is meant to be a joyful occasion, and my friends the Carswells (parents of the groom to be) had invited me, but as I approached the front door, which banged noisily as it swung on its hinges, I wished violently that I could turn tail and run! The door creaked open, and a sepulchral voice said, “Come in. Welcome to the McAddams Family Home.” As I cautiously stepped in, the bearskin rug suddenly reared up its head and growled at me! I screamed, and the voice, which was now behind me, said, “Pay no attention to Bruno the rug, it’s his form of greeting.” Just then, my friend, Muffy Carswell, came up to welcome me, and as we hugged, I hissed in her ear, “Muffy, I will do a lot for my friends, but this is beyond the beyond! Are you out of your cotton pickin’ mind??!?
